REVIEWED: Absolute Batman: The Killing Joke

September 2018 saw the release of DC Comics’ Absolute edition of Batman: The Killing Joke. This new collection celebrates the 30th anniversary of writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland’s seminal Batman and Joker story, originally published in 1988. For this review I’m not going to look at the story, but rather at the Absolute edition itself in order to discover if this new prestige format re-release is worth a double — or even triple — dip. The Black Hole by Jack Kirby

Here at ‘Tain’t the Meat… It’s the Humanity!, our mission statement has always been to uncover lost or forgotten pop culture curiosities from the worlds of comics and film. This week we’ve unearthed a little gem from the late 1970s that scratches both of those itches at once — a newspaper comic strip adaptation of Disney’s The Black Hole, drawn by legendary comic book artist Jack (King!) Kirby.
