Immediately upon it’s release in May 1977 Star Wars became a global phenomenon, with writer and director George Lucas’s space fantasy seeming to tap into the global zeitgeist. In the three months following its release in May 1977 interest in Star Wars, George Lucas’ space fantasy, reached almost unprecedented proportions.
